Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely escaped winter in Central Point just yet. Mother Nature has given us a few nice days, but she’s always prepared to remind us that she’s the boss. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call us for out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall could bury your air conditioner in the snow, hindering its performance when the temperatures finally warm up for the season. Not to mention it can hinder a high-efficiency system from performing as such. The situation could become an even larger problem too if you don’t prep for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to help your air conditioner work correctly even though snow has fallen or could fall in the approaching days and weeks.

  1. Ensure you have a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Inspect the area routinely to ensure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that may have built up throughout the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, placing a cover over your air conditioner might end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner can be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, leading to damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Central Point will most likely fluctuate up and down over the last few days of winter, you can’t count out the probability of weather that can change the performance of your air conditioner. At Titan Heating & Air Conditioning in Central Point, we are always available to take a look at any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re related to air conditioner service or buying a new system.
